Clouds – May 29, 2011

Taken in 2010, while walking from Union Station to the Merchandise Mart after taking the train from the suburbs into Chicago to see the Artropolis annual art show, which consists of two floors of paintings, sculptures, photography, etc.  While I was much more impressed with the 2010 show than this years, I still recommend visiting in the coming years. This particular day was overcast and the lighting made everything very flat.  I only had a few minutes left in the 15-20 minute walk, and hadn’t found anything to take photos of yet.  Luckily, I stopped to look around, and saw some captivating cloud reflections on a nearby building.  A few more steps, and I had...

USGBC’s 6th Annual Emerald Gala

I had a great time photographing the USGBC – Illinois Chapter’s 6th Annual Emerald Gala at Soldier Field Saturday evening.  I have a lot of photos to go through, but I feel I captured some great images of the evening’s celebration.   Thanks to Doug, Karin, Joan, Katie, Pam, & all the volunteers for all the hard work they put into planning for the event.  Hopefully you were able to reach your fundraising goals for the evening.   It’s going to take around a week to post all the images in the gallery, but here are a few previews:   The full gallery with high resolution photos can be found...

Emerald Gala – May 22, 2011

Though my main responsibility as the photographer for the USGBC’s 6th Annual Emerald Gala at Soldier Field was to get “candid” photographs of the event’s 375 attendees enjoying the evening, along with a few more formal photographs of the award winners, there were numerous opportunities to create/capture images that I feel appeal to a wider range of viewers; photographs that would be interesting and visually attractive to people who were not at the event.  The first image, of the wine glasses was taken close to arrival 2 hours before the doors open to capture the space.  I was immediately drawn to the patterns created by the compositions of...

The Genius of Gaudi – May 15, 2011

Please check back often, as a new featured photo will be offered each week at discounted prices. This week’s photo is from a recent trip to Barcelona. It is the interior of architect Antoni Gaudi’s masterpiece, Sagrada Familia. Arriving half an hour before the gates opened, the entrance line was already halfway around the block. Though once open, the line moved quickly for everyone who had chose to pay the $20 -$25 admission fee. It was truly an amazing experience, and vastly different than I remember it being on my last visit in 2000. The interior is now open, and was even consecrated by the Pope in 2010. Photos really can do the experience no justice, but...
