Girona – Part I – July 31, 2011

Taken in Girona, Spain on a recent overnight excursion from a trip to Barcelona, this photo, to me, epitomizes the more interesting section of the city.  The city, which is divided into a “new town” & an “old town,” is located in Northern Spain, near the border of France and close to the Costa Brava, and lea relatively easy two hour train ride from Barcelona.  Having been referred to as the “Spanish Venice” because of it’s beauty by a number of publications, we were excited to escape the hustle & bustle and crowds of daily life in Barcelona.  However, when we saw the internationally famous golden arches from the...

Night Out – July 24, 2011

After dinner in a Barri Gotic (Gothic Quarter) restaurant, we were not ready to end our 12 to 14 hour day of wondering, exploring, and photographing the 39 square mile Catalonian capital city of Barcelona, so we continued our exploration by taking a different route back to the hotel.  Like most other nights, we ended up stopping in a local pub.  This particular evening we were able to dodge the men in the streets who were trying to sell cans of beer to each passerby and entered a bar/restaurant named ”Schillings,” where we had witnessed a large camera crew filming some kind of production a few days prior.  Since it was after normal eating hours...

Spain Preview – July 17, 2011

I have to apologize – Due to a recent three week  business trip for the architecture portion of the company, I will not be able provide a new Featured Photo of the Week today.  However, though there will not be a new discounted photo this week, I will offer the previous eight images at the discounted price.  Click on the image in any of the previous eight posts to link to the discounted purchase page. I also wanted to give everyone a preview of some of the soon to be released photos from my April trip to Spain.  For  Fine Art & Travel photos, I typically try to wait until around 90-120 days after I return from the trip to select and process the...

Houston – July 10, 2011

These photos, taken on a 3 week long business trip to Houston, are from the interior of an appropriately named store just outside of downtown called “Texas Junk Company“.  The store, which at my best guess consists of tens of thousands of square feet of nearly any used thing you can imagine (from drawers of used ink pens, bolts of varying sizes,  & “rubber stuff” to still full cans of water from the 1960s, picture frames, door hardware, & antique typewriters.)  The main attraction though, as described by a hand painted sign on the exterior are the “more than 1000 pairs of used boots starting at $30″.    The establishment,...

Red, White, & Blue – July 3, 2011

In honor of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday tomorrow, I originally planned to offer a fireworks photo for this week’s “Featured Photo of the Week” special.  However, I began thinking that would be pretty typical and expected.  Luckily, soon after my thought, while browsing through my archives from the film days, I stumbled across this image from around 2004 or 2005 and immediately knew the originality of subject & composition would make this the perfect candidate.  The presense of essentially only the patriotic colors of Red, White, & Blue, coupled with the hint at where this photo was taken, makes is a very appropriate image to...
