Of all the great sites and photo opportunities in the Renaissance city of Florence, Italy, the San Lorenzo Market provided the setting for this week’s Featured Photo.   Located in the center of Florence, this market is one of the largest and most visited in the city.  It’s white tent covered stalls  line multiple blocks and contain nearly everything you can imagine from hand made leather shoes and bags and cashmere pashminas to small David souvenir statues and silk ties, and nearly everything in between.   While a few people & websites recommend against purchasing items here due to their poor quality, I recommend the opposite. ...

Chicago – August 21, 2011

I spent Wednesday attending a weekly “Jazzin’ at the Shedd” event at Chicago’s Shedd Aquariam.  While it was kinda nice to see the exhibits over drinks inside and watching live jazz on the outdoor terraces, this week’s crowd was insane.  The jellyfish exhibit, which I was most excited to see felt more club (without the music and dancing) with the shoulder to shoulder crowd in front of each exhibit.  It was difficult manuevering through the crowd with a large camera bag, but with a little patience, I was able to at least see a majority of the exhibits.  Photographing them was not as easy with the numerous people and a number of flashes...

Barcelona Alley – August 14, 2011

This scene, located just Southeast of the Catalan Gothic style Santa Maria Del Mar church in the Ribera neighborhood, is the product of hours of aimless exploration of Barcelona. Having already visited the cathedrals of the city that are more frequently viewed by visitors, I decided to take a break from the hordes of tourists at the more popular destinations of the city that at times felt like the European equivalent of Las Vegas (minus the casinos) and set off on foot to explore the more authentic parts of Barcelona – the El Born & Ribera neighborhoods.
