Coffee – November 27, 2011

In keeping with the spirit of this week’s bonus Thanksgiving post is this photograph that I have hanging in my kitchen.  In addition to keeping the “food” theme, the subject matter, being a couple of after dinner drinks seems appropriate now that the holiday is officially over.  Also, I’m guessing that the coffee aspect, which plays an important role in the daily life of most workplaces, was probably even more essential in getting through the day.  I don’t typically drink coffee, but having to get up early after four days of sleeping in, was enough to make me at least think about it.   This specific photo was taken after dinner...

Happy Thanksgiving – November 24, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.  I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m a little back-logged in the processing of a large number of fine art & travel photos.  My intentions for the holiday time off is to try to get a few more photos uploaded to my galleries.   With the large meal that has become the centerpiece of family gatherings on this day, I figured what better subject is there than some newly processed food photos.   These particular photos are from raw ingredients rather than completed dishes, and were taken at a prominent open air market claiming to have the freshest ingredients in Barcelona, though the same items can easily be...

Abstract – November 20, 2011

Though this particular image is stylistically different than the photos that I typically offer as featured photos, I’m drawn to the strong contrasting lines, geometric forms, and relatively small, but selective, depth of field that this week’s photo offers.  I feel that these aspects combine into a strong composition and offers a nice change of pace to the weekly offering.   I’m hesitant to divulge too much about the setting for this photo, as it may take away some of the appeal, but it was taken during my journey in Spain earlier this year.  In my opinion, it’s a prime example of one of the definitions of photography as the “art of...

Oltrarno Vespa – November 13, 2011

I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to visit Florence on a number of occasions.  Though all of the previous trips prior to my most recent visit were relatively short 1-2 day visits.  With such a short time in the city, my activities consisted primarily of only seeing the main attractions:  the Duomo, San Lorenzo Market, the Uffizi Museum, the Academia (and Michelangelo’s David) etc.   Recently, my style of travel has evolved away from the whirlwind type of tour where I tried to cram as many places into as short of a time as possible.  It’s a style of travel that definitely served its purpose, and allowed me to see a number of different places...

Vernazza – November 6, 2011

Of the five villages that make up the Italian destination known as Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast, Vernazza demanded the most attention.  While all the towns are beautiful, and the region ranks a close second (to the Amalfi coast) on my personal favorites list, for whatever reason, most of my time was spent in the fourth town (when going from south to north).  In my opinion, the paths to and from Vernazza offer the best views and the main plaza next to the harbor provided a picturesque spot to take in the serenely festive atmosphere.   It was slightly off peak tourism season, so the stores and restaurants were nearly empty.  While there were...
