Lately I’ve been noticing that most (not all) of the photos I’ve been featuring each week are color images.  I guess it was somewhat fortuitous that I randomly ran across some of my older black & white prints the other night.  The stack of mounted photographs I came across are over a decade old, so I had temporarily forgotten about them in my constant attempt to catch up on my ever expanding inventory of photos that need digitally processed.  I felt like many of the compositions are still relevant and of a level of quality that I strive for in my works of the present day.    While my equipment has significantly improved over the years (most...

When traveling, specifically in Europe, my first instinct when traveling between towns is to take the train.  Unlike public transit in the US, the European train system (in my experiences) has been very efficient, reliable, and punctual (with the exceptions of missing a train due to me not hearing a last minute platform change, and a couple instances of being kicked off of trains for not having the proper tickets.)  However, there are certain destinations that alternate methods of public transportation are preferred options.  The Florence to Siena route is one example.    Though there are frequent trains between the two Tuscan towns, a bus ends up being a much more...

Brunelleschi’s Duomo – March 4, 2012

Having been fortunate enough to spend a short time living in Rome, I have been able to visit Florence a handful of times. Most of my visits were quick unplanned day trips that consisted primarily of seeing the major attractions (San Lorenzo Markets, Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Accademia, etc.) While each trip was a great experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed each visit, it is my most recent visit that is, by far, the most memorable.   My previous trips were part of what I considered my “appetizer” phase, where I would try to get a sampling of as many places as possible in a relatively short period of time, knowing that I would eventually go back to the...
